2020 Olympia Figure Contest Report

Olympia Contest Coverage Sponsored by BODYPRO Gym

While the Figure division has been one that has been a close fight for the past few years, we were not expecting to see much of a change when it comes to the top 5. As we presumed, Cydney Gillon once again brought a physique that was just undeniable as the Figure Olympia Champion. This made it four consecutive victories for Gillon as the Figure Olympia Champion.

Natalia Soltero was one that caught us by surprise, earning herself a 2nd place finish. Natalia, much like Cydney, has great shape, excellent conditioning, and a beautiful overall presentation about her. Look for her to give Cydney a hard time again at next year’s Olympia.

As the score sheets show, it was only 2 points that put Natalia over the 3rd place, Nadia Wyatt. This goes to show that the judges were split in their decision as to who earned the 2nd place spot. We originally thought we would see Nadia Wyatt take home the 2nd place spot, but we agree with the judges' decision.

Another athlete making a somewhat unexpected appearance in the final top 5, was Nicole Zenobia Graham. Nicole made her Olympia debut last year, finishing in 16th place. From there, she went on to win both the 2020 Lenda Murray Pro, and the 2020 New York Pro. This year we witnessed Graham finish in 4th place at the 2020 Olympia.

What is just one more shocking result from this past weekend’s contest, was to see the former 2x Ms. Olympia Figure Champion Latorya Watts, slide down to 5th place in this 2020 Olympia. Latorya just didn’t bring the level of conditioning we usually see from her. From watching her in prejudging, Watts also appeared that she just didn’t have the same fire in her eyes as she did in years past.

Maryam Bamdad is one of the Canadian Figure competitors we were watching for this weekend. While she finished in the third callout, we still expect to see her bounce back in the year ahead. She has such beautiful shape, along with excellent muscularity and definition.

Martina Yabekova has always been a Canadian favourite when it comes to Figure athletes stepping on stage at Olympia. Martina brought her great look and conditioning, but it wasn’t enough to make it into the top 10.

Our third Canadian Figure competitor stepping on the Olympia stage this past weekend was Asmaa Salimi. Asmaa earned her IFBB Pro Card at the 2019 Ben Weider Naturals and that same weekend competed in the Ben Weider Pro show which she also won! This provided Salimi with her first Olympia qualification at this year’s contest. Asmaa finished in 16th place, but we are confident that we will see her back on the Olympia stage again.
