Olympia Contest Coverage Sponsored by BODYPRO Gym
When it was announced that the 2020 Olympia moved to Orlando Florida, many bodybuilding fans expected to see a scaled-back version of the annual event. Well, once the weekend’s action got underway, we quickly realized this was not the case. Jake Wood, Dan Solomon, and the rest of the Olympia production team brought us a true spectacle of a show. When we got that first look at the Olympia finals stage, our jaws dropped. Whether you were there in the audience or watching at home, you knew this was going to be a bigger and better show than we’ve seen in a long time.
Jake Wood made it clear that one of the first goals he set after upon acquiring the Olympia, was to bring Women’s Bodybuilding back to the Olympia stage. It was a great showing by the women gracing the stage this weekend. With so much excitement surrounding the return of these women to the big show, we expected to see 10 time Ms. Olympia Champion Iris Kyle to be the one walking away with the title once again. But when Friday’s prejudging round was completed, all the buzz was about the fact Kyle was not seen on stage. Shortly after the ladies were finished on stage, Iris Kyle announced that she was not competing due to an undisclosed illness.
While the absence of Iris Kyle was disappointing, the excitement from the rest of the incredible athletes that took to the stage kept us more than entertained. The competition between Helle Trevino and Andrea Shaw was a showdown beyond expectations. Fans could not be happier to see Shaw walk away as the New Ms. Olympia Champion. She has incredible shape, full muscle bellies, and sharp conditioning, while still maintaining a beautifully feminine look.
While Canadian IFBB Pro Nicki Chartrand did not place in the top 5, she really did leave a lasting impression on the audience. Nicki ended up placing 8th in her first Ms. Olympia competition. She brought a physique that was conditioned with great muscle definition. Chartrand really brought flavour and colour to her posing routine, which hyped up the crowd and showed that she was having a blast on stage.
Fellow Canadian Janeen Lankowski was impressive in her presentation and routine. Although she finished in the third callout, she should be very proud of the physique she brought to this Olympia stage. Janeen showed that she was comfortable on stage and is a true performer. We don’t know if Janeen was still experiencing some of the back pain she was dealing with at the Rising Phoenix World Championships. If she was still having issues, she didn’t let it show on stage.
